지난 1월 18(주일)-19일(월)까지 이틀간, 뉴저지 더바인교회(고한승 목사 시무)에서 동북부 지방 목사님들 13가정, 40여 명이 함께 모여 목회자 수련회를 가졌습니다. 눈이 오는 불편한 날씨였지만 우리의 모임을 막지는 못했습니다. 이번 수련회는 한인 상가가 인접한 지역에서 진행되었기 때문에 맛있는 음식과 편안한 호텔에서 몸과 마음을 쉬는 시간을 누릴 수 있었습니다.
주일 저녁에는 함께 예배하고 기도하며 하나님 앞에서 마음을 모으는 시간을 가졌습니다. 분주한 사역의 현장에서 잠시 벗어나, 말씀과 기도로 다시 중심을 세우는 귀한 시간이 되었습니다. 이후에는 가족 모두가 함께 참여하는 윷놀이 시간이 이어졌습니다. 대진표 없이 가족별로 자유롭게 진행하되, 가장 많이 승리한 팀에게 상을 주는 방식으로 진행되었습니다. 남녀노소 모두가 열심히, 그리고 즐겁게 참여했습니다. 아이들의 해맑은 웃음 소리와 목사님과 사모님들의 함성이 끊이지 않았습니다.
이튿날 오전에는 가족들이 호텔에서 쉬는 동안 목사님들만 따로 교회에 모여 목회의 이야기와 삶의 이야기를 나누며 함께 기도하는 시간을 가졌습니다. 각자의 사역 현장에서 겪는 고민과 은혜를 솔직하게 나누며, 서로를 격려하고 위로하는 가운데 다시 한번 사명의 힘을 얻는 시간이 되었습니다. 짧지만 진솔한 나눔 속에서 동역자라는 사실의 소중함을 확인할 수 있었습니다. 점심 후 각자의 목회지로 흩어졌습니다.
이번 수련회는 짧지만 쉼과 교제, 그리고 영적 회복이 조화를 이룬 시간이었습니다. 함께 웃고, 함께 기도하며, 서로의 이야기에 귀 기울이는 가운데 동역자임을 확인하며 서로에게 격려가 되는 시간이었습니다.
Northeast District Winter Clergy Family Retreat
From January 18 (Sunday) through 19 (Monday), thirteen pastoral families—over forty people—from the Northeast District gathered at The Vine Church in New Jersey (Rev. Han seung Koh) for a clergy retreat. Despite snowy and inconvenient weather, nothing could stop us from gathering together. Since the retreat took place in an area near Korean shopping centers, we were able to enjoy delicious food and rest our bodies and minds in comfortable hotel accommodations.
On Sunday evening, we worshiped, prayed, and united our hearts before God. It was a precious time to step away from the busyness of ministry and recenter ourselves through the Word and prayer. Afterward, families participated together in a traditional Korean board game called Yut. Rather than following a tournament bracket, families played freely with one another, and prizes were awarded to the teams with the most wins. Young and old alike participated enthusiastically and joyfully. The cheerful laughter of children and the cheers of pastors and their spouses filled the room without pause.
The following morning, while families rested at the hotel, the pastors gathered separately at the church to share stories from ministry and life, and to pray together. As they honestly shared the struggles and graces experienced in their respective ministry contexts, they encouraged and comforted one another, finding renewed strength in their calling. Through brief but sincere sharing, they confirmed the preciousness of being co-laborers. After lunch, everyone dispersed to their respective ministry settings.
Though brief, this retreat was a time where rest, fellowship, and spiritual renewal came together harmoniously. Through laughing together, praying together, and listening to one another's stories, it was a time to confirm our partnership and become an encouragement to each other.
